But we're supposed to cover those
“Luigi Mangione’s murder of Brian Thompson — an innocent man and father of two young children — was a premeditated, cold-blooded assassination that shocked America ... After careful consideration, I have directed federal prosecutors to seek the death penalty in this case as we carry out president Trump’s agenda to stop violent crime and Make America Safe Again.”
—Pam Bondi, 87th United States attorney general
Your Honor, Luigi is innocent. He was with me when my doctor’s treatment plan was rejected. He helped me realize we couldn’t afford a second opinion. He was there when my pharmacy ceased to fill the generic alternative. He was watching my face when GoodRx coupons replaced my coverage. He helped me up when the pharmacy ran out of Albuterol. He taught me how to ration meds. He convinced me to use the expired cough syrup. He rode with me when we Ubered to the hospital. He rubbed my back while I choked in the ER and the staff scanned my insurance card. He remembered my member ID, my group number, my Rx BIN. He reminded me of my increasing copay. He taught me the meaning of “maximum out-of-pocket”. He was there when the rep on the phone explained the difference between preventive and non-preventive care. He helped me up when I was utterly demolished by COBRA. He taught me it is better to destroy myself working so that I can afford the doctor once I am destroyed. He was with me on the phone when all of my claims were denied. In fact, he’s still with me. All the goddamn time. Your Honor, Luigi didn’t murder anyone. If anything, he hastened the arrival of a pre-existing condition. But we’re supposed to cover those, so everything’s all good.
